I can’t tell you how many people I have run into that the first words out of their mouth when they see Sox are “Oooh, what a pretty dog! Are you looking to breed her?” (gah)

People have ruined the Pitbull Breed. It wasn't originally bred to be a killer. It started a century ago to teach it to attack bulls, and then man changed it to attack humans. Problem with most of the breed today is that it has been over bred to the point that know one knows what the background is on the average household pet. Knowing who the parents are isn't enough info to reinsure that aggressive genes haven't been passed down from the grand-parents or from the great-grandparents. When you think about it, most breeds have that problem today. Look at our chis with all of their health issues and yes, even some nasty aggression. I was shocked the other day when I went onto Ebays classified for my area and saw how many people were selling pitt puppies!! Our shelters as is all over the US, is killing this breed, like our chis, faster then you can breed them, and yet these stupid, money hungry, selfish people are still breeding both of these breeds. Honestly, I really feel that the law should just ban pitty and chis from being bred, unless it is from a licensed show breeder. That is the only way to stop all the BYB and PMs from breeding them. Being realistic, I know that even if that were done, there would be a black market, but the numbers would be cut back dramatically, and for the years ahead both breeds would become strong again from the good breeders. I think the type of dog you’re speaking of is likely to have come from a backyard breeder, or someone who is purposely trying to get a “game” dog, or a dog where something has gone wrong genetically. The pitbull breeds (American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, Bull Terrier) are not innately vicious and unpredictable. That is not a normal dog. They’ve been a popular family dog for years and they rank high in temperament testing. I think that’s why we see so many pit mixes come into rescues and shelters – they are still popular with families. Regardless of breed, chaining a dog or keeping it separated from its family or pack only serves to make the dog more frustrated so that it will become aggressive. Dogs are pack animals, whether it’s pack is human, dog, cat, horse or whatever. Being separated from them is not the norm and it doesn’t work. That’s why so many communities are now working to get the word out to their people to stop chaining up dogs. I personally don’t think it’s only one or the other (dog or human). Just like practically everything in life it’s the combinations – most of the time they’re good – sometimes they’re very bad. One thing I did a long time ago when a neighbor had a Pit that he bragged he paid $700 to get trained to be a 'guard' dog was we had a chain link fence between us and I poured concrete along the bottom of the fence to help block that merciless sucker. I would report to the police that those dogs are next to you so they are 'aware' and can get there in a hurry. Always keep your phone with you and carry a gun or mace spray. Not much will deter one of them when they go rampant but heck you have to try to do something to protect yourself ! Prayers for your safety and the safety of your pets and those you love. I blame their bad behavior on the owner. A few years ago I was visiting a friend & she had a shar/pit mix & a pit in her home. She said she fed them table food so when I finished eating I divided my food in half & gave it to them. The pit was on the sofa beside me & she looked up at me & bit me in the nose & I drove myself to the ER & got stitches on both sides of my nose outside, inside & on the inner septum. The police came & took a report. After that I would tell my boys that no matter what pets we had that they should never put their face in harms way. Now my next door neighbors have a fenced yard that divides my property from them & their 2 pits & poodle & occasionally the pits escape under the fence. Yesterday I was gardening & one of them charged at me barking ferociously & was ready to attack me. The fence was the only thing keeping me safe & I was on my knees pulling weeds & it scared the crap out of me & made me mad as well!! I would never harm any animal but I'm so fearful of these 2 pits that I am ready to contact animal control to see if any action can be taken to protect me & my pets. A few years ago they lived in a different home & had one pit & he killed a rott & they bragged about how they could hear the bones crunching as their dog refused to release his grip on the other dog which had to be put down at the vets office due to the severity of his injuries. I am pretty passive & try to let things slide, but I'm at the point now that I'm really, really, scared & something has to be done to protect my neighborhood, my pets & my family.
