i am not against the whole "designer breed" thing. YES some of the breeds are
HIDEOUS and some mixes dont even make sense to me...like why would you mix a
malamute with a husky??? they are pretty much the same breed of dog just one is
larger and fluffier. there are some mixes that i DO understand. like mixing for
the looks of one breed but with in hopes of the personality from the other.
trying to get that "perfect" dog for someone. I actually own a designer breed
myself. she is what they call a "pineranian" she is a miniature pinscher mixed
with a pomeranian. she has the merle pattern from her father (pomeranian) and
the tan markings and short coat of the mother (miniature pinscher) she is the
SMARTEST most LOVING dog and she is PERFECT for our family. was so glad she
took on the personality of the pomeranian and not the min pin (ive owned min
pins before and they can be pretty tenacious LOL) but mixing a min pin with a
pug??? WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY
THINKING! i just dont understand some of the mixes they are coming up with. i
wouldnt go to a breeder who just slaps any two dogs together and calls it a
breed. i got my "designer" from a lady who did all the proper health testing,
waited till her dogs were both 2 years old so they can get the hips tested and
had her pups in the cleanest environment i have ever seen.

You are exactly right about every breed started as a designer dog.  I too am
against backyard breeders and puppy mills.

Hey!  I have a chug and a pig and I love them both.  Every breed now
established started out as a “designer dog”.  Give us a break.  However, I am
against backyard breeders and puppy mills.

Well as long as there are people out there craving "designer dogs" and willing
to pay top dollar for them, they are going to breed them unfortunately.  Why
can't you just love a breed for what it is?  Some of those mixes turn out
hideous and let's not even talk about temperament. Geez..

i actually love pit bulls. but i love the ones that are SHOW bred. not the
backyard breeding mills where people are slapping any two pitbulls together
regardless of temperment or size. we get a lot of pitbulls in my grooming salon
and they are all just the biggest love bugs that will crawl right into your lap
and cover your face with kisses. yes there are some bad ones out there that are
not necessarily from bad owners, just bad breeding. if you are breeding an
agressive dog to another dog that agression is going to breed down into the
pups. but i think the SHOW dogs are stunning and have wonderful personalities.
but there are WAY too many pitbulls being back yard bred that it is actually
sad. and now that they are trying to make a shorter BULLY style of them by
mixing them with bulldogs is just so damn rediculous and not to mention they
look awful! i dont understand that group of people that do that.

My brother had a pit that he raised from a puppy & Petey listened & was well
mannered & so I let my guard down around them. I blame their bad behavior on
the owner. A few years ago I was visiting a friend & she had a shar/pit mix & a
pit in her home. She said she fed them table food so when I finished eating I
divided my food in half & gave it to them. The pit was on the sofa beside me &
she looked up at me & bit me in the nose & I drove myself to the ER & got
stitches on both sides of my nose outside, inside & on the inner septum. The
police came & took a report. After that I would tell my boys that no matter
what pets we had that they should never put their face in harms way. Now my
next door neighbors have a fenced yard that divides my property from them &
their 2 pits & poodle & occasionally the pits escape under the fence. Yesterday
I was gardening & one of them charged at me barking ferociously & was ready to
attack me. The fence was the only thing
keeping me safe & I was on my knees pulling weeds & it scared the crap out of
me & made me mad as well!! I would never harm any animal but I'm so fearful of
these 2 pits that I am ready to contact animal control to see if any action can
be taken to protect me & my pets. A few years ago they lived in a different
home & had one pit & he killed a rott & they bragged about how they could hear
the bones crunching as their dog refused to release his grip on the other dog
which had to be put down at the vets office due to the severity of his
injuries. I am pretty passive & try to let things slide, but I'm at the point
now that I'm really, really, scared & something has to be done to protect my
neighborhood, my pets & my family. I'd probably do something awful if their
pits ever got one of my babies!!
