I thought the same thing.  I know that when people are in shock sometimes they 
can be like that, but one of the updates said that the father has a drug 
addiction and that they took the other two kids into foster care.  If the 
mother was at the doctor with one of the kids, it doesn't seem right.  But on 
the recording she said they were petsitting one dog and then the news story 
said that they had adopted that dog several weeks before.  It is tragic.  I am 
not an expert on how people react when in shock...so I can't really make a 
determination on that.
