One guy has a dog that he told me was a wild dog that they are working with -
they put a leash on the dog but don't hold it; and they also stop the car by
the stop sign, let the dog out, and then race it home. That dog came running
up to Dolly - about a week after her knee surgery. We were just coming out of
Judy's house and Dolly was on a leash. The dog came tearing up Judy's
driveway, Dolly was screeching a very deep screech at the top of her lungs, and
the dog came over to her, and she was so mad that she bit the dogs nose. The
man just stood at the street calling the dog. I was so scared...kind of proud
of Dolly though! I didn't expect that of her.
Then there was the cocker spaniel dog that came racing out of another
neighbor's garage, ran across the street and starting biting at Dolly's tail;
then left go and got a hold of the top of her rear; and then let go and grabbed
onto her hoodie (maybe she wanted a hoodie just like it...LOL). She was again
screeching, and then the young lady came running over and got the cocker. Very
reassuring for her to tell me that she was on the way to the vet because the
puppies were supposed to have the second Rabies booster FOUR MONTHS before.
Well, at least my two were vaccinated. After the gal took her dog, I had to
remain calm for Dolly. I first picked her up and made sure that she wasn't
pierced or bleeding. Then I carried her for a house and a half and then when
we turned the corner I put her back down to walk. She actually did OK. When I
was coming back the young lady was coming from my house to see if she was OK.
She said she was so sorry...but that wouldn't have cut it if Dolly had been
physically injured.
I have seen a black lab whose owner walks her with a flexi leash and lets her
go up all the way to people's houses and pee and poop right by the foundation.
There are a couple of akitas owned by a police officer and his wife is tiny and
it looks like she is burning more calories staying upright than she is walking.
Most of the ones here are beagles and chihuahuas. There are the regular mixes
a shitzu or two, but most are maybe 20 lbs or less.
Makes me sick the people that don't know that their Pappilion is running around
and not at home - for hours at a time. Next time I see that I will call animal
control. They might get fined, or they might find a good home for that little
gal. Oh...Dolly & Desi's little pals across the street are Malteses...they
love playing with each other.
Its sad that a few people fail to follow the 'neighborly' rules. At board
meetings, two big issues are alway DOG POOP, and DOG POOP. All three of us
board members are not wanting to spend $350/ea for about 10-15 poop
stations...we are enabling, so now any homeowners complaining about dogs
pooping in their yard are encouraged to let us know and someone may know the
person/dog or someone else may...and so now the homeowners are feeling
empowered to find out who are letting their dogs poop in others yards...should
be interesting over the next few months.
