What we did with our little Elmer(foster) is the vet put him on an
antibiotic for a few weeks before the surgery, did the teeth and neuter at
the same time, and then gave him an injectable antibiotic after the
surgery. She also had him on an oral antibiotic for about 4 weeks after
the surgery. He had a mouthful of infected teeth that had to be pulled and
only has 3 left. She did bloodwork prior to the surgery as well as a chest
x-ray because he also has an heart murmur and an enlarged heart. The heart
damage was caused by the mouth bacteria traveling to his heart and wrecking
his heart valves.
Talk with your vet. There are risks putting her under general anesthesia
twice also. Elmer is between 8-12 years old and did great. He feels SO
much better after getting rid of the nasty teeth! He is about 5 pounds.
