Hi Kay,
Actually, if you were in the residential part of Las Vegas you would see
'Green'. I, myself, was surprised that there was more than cactus and
tumbleweeds.
Some people do have firs here. Everything is watered with drip irrigation - I
like that because I don't have to water which would mean everything would be
dead. For all the normal household water and the water for both the front and
back yards, is only 3-4 thousand gallons a month. I have beautiful Lantana,
Rosemary, Lemon Bottlebrush, and other stuff that is beautiful but I don't know
all the names.
I moved here from inland San Diego where we had the humidity from the ocean 15
miles away, but was in the valley where the heat settled too. In my comparison
a day here of dry 113 (about the worst that it has been since I have lived here
4 years) is not as bad as a day in California of 97 with all that humidity.
Most of the time I am inside. If I have to go out, I go from the AC house to
the garage to my AC in my car. When I arrive somewhere it actually doesn't
feel so hot because I am still cool - and then into a store, or church, or
wheverever I am going. I have been sitting outside almost every night - I have
to give Desi a bath almost every day and he doesn't dry well - and it may be 96
when I go out there, a cool breeze is present and not bad...it is always good
feeling to go back into the house where it is about 10 degrees cooler, but it
is pleasant enough to sit out there.
Perhaps I will send you some pictures of the plants in the neighborhood.
