It still could be pain related so with an old dog this to have the vet check it 
out. My old dog Murphy got nastier as he got older but it was from the pain. 
Even by the time he was about 8 years old he didn't want to be touched very 
much as he got to be 15 I couldn't even clean his ears because I couldn't even 
put the muzzle on him keep him from biting me or continue to brush his teeth.
