Hi Bob,
Here is a trick that might work, at least it works with regular TV type of remotes. Use a pencil with a soft lead to "write" on the conductive surfaces. The graphite in the lead is conductive and restores some of the conductive coating lost. Eventually it wears out and you may have to treat it again.
