There are a surprising number of batch numbers about in SCRs. Many are
for some tweak that the manufacturer was asked for. A surprising number
just have the corners rounded on the hex so it will fit in a tighter
area, but testing for tighter specs (dv/dt, switching times, min gate
current, etc) is not unusual either.
This is where a lowlife techie proves vastly superior to an engineer.
The engineer hgas to know what is was, so he can specify an exact
equivelant; The techie doesn't give much for what it was, but opens his
favourite catalog supplier's book at the `SCRs' page. Having found a
suitable voltage overhead (guesswork) you decide on dv/dt, etc this way.
If your scr is on mains inputs, forget it. If it's switching, pick a
switching device, because if the catalog gives you switching data on
their scr, it's probably good enough. Don't read the specs - that just
wastes time. Use the largest current that package provides, and specify
that device.
In 13 years, I've never been caught out on an scr this way :-). I did
specify certain switching applications slightly more seriously, to be
fair, but that's about it.
