I have an old GE Semiconductor Data Book (c. 1977). According to it part number designation for SCRs should start with a C as in:
C234 U 2
where:
C = silicon controlled rectifier
234 = 25A rms stud/TO3 flange
U = 25 Volts
2 = isolated stud mount

There's no mention of any part starting with an "E". Let me know if you need the full part number designation table.
