every serial mouse in the world does exactly the same. I know that
these are an endangered species, as appear to be standard RS232-ports.
I don't think there are any specifications available on how much you
may steal from the RS232-port, but as far as I remember there was
actually an application note from Microchip itself, describing how to
do the trick. Yes, indeed: AN519
