Yeah,yeah.. you're right..It might be the cable..
my MOBO is a P4MFM made by Jetway of Taiwan,
unfortunately there is no available extra cable for
this model  and I used the COM port cable from Asus
MOBO..
I was thinking that they are of the same
standard.."PLUG AND PLAY???"
I reviewed the user manual and find an illustration of
my COM2 Header, but there is no detailed description
of which pin is which..
Too bad..

What kind of cable did you use to connect the second
com port? Was it
delivered with your motherboard? There is no standard
layout for the
cable connectors on motherboards and you'll have to
make sure to use a
matching cable for the connectors on your particular
motherboard.

You might start with comparing it to the cable
attached you your other
com port - or you might even use this cable for test
purposes...
