I have a pile of chips marked "LA7<3digits>" They are all small dip
packages from a tv supplier, but nothing near 54 pins, and most are '93
or '94 vintage. No LA76xx devices either. Certainly no 5 digit numbers.

Getting inventive with google, I found

http://www.datadart.com/al/sanyo/LA7680.pdf which is a "Monolithic
Linear IC Single-chip Processor for colour tv use"

Linear Processor :-o? Am I seeing things? Am I learning?

Are Sanyo stupid enough to coin a number that's a superset of an
existing product? AFAIK, only Motorola were that stupid (68xx/68xxx),
and even then they separated the end of the numbers.

/unwittingly starts "Stupidest IC manufacturer" debate ;-).

It's probably worth downloading the data. Mind you, I didn't :-)
