Does this same slowness happen in Internet Explorer?
Chromium uses the same proxy-server settings as IE.
If IE is slow too, try setting chromium's proxy settings (options -> under
the hood -> change proxy settings ->
Lan settings) to match Firefox.
In particular "Automatically detect settings" can be very slow.
