Comment #17 on issue 2472 by [email protected]: Need a clear definition of
user-initiated for PopUps
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=2472
I think this really needs someone who understands the implementation
details, not a
PM. My naïve expectation as a user is that if I click something (or hit
enter) that
the site tells me to click, that's an indication that I expect the site to
do
something, and if the site's response to that is to open a popup, it should
be
allowed. As a user, I'm not thinking whether I'm clicking inside of a
windowed plugin
or a link or a button on the page, I'm obviously clicking somewhere the
site tells me
to click.
If it's impossible (or too ugly) to pipe the user gesture through from the
plugin to
the script context or wherever it may need to go, then an engineer should
say so and
mark it as WontFix. If it's possible, that's what we should do. With my
user/PM hat
on, it's simple - user clicks somewhere == allow popup. Someone familiar
with the
code (Ben) should clarify what is actually possible / worth doing. I'm
happy to offer
assistance, but I think that for someone unfamiliar with the code to try
and dictate
the solution is probably a bad idea.
