Comment #26 on issue 3977 by kevinkells: Chrome doesn't launch Adobe reader when the option not to open pdf's in a browser is set http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=3977
This is still not fixed in the latest development version Chromium 2.0.172.0 (12741), even after ninkendo's workaround with Open Adobe Reader > Edit > Preferences > Internet and uncheck "Display PDF in browser". It works fine with Firefox 3.0.7 and IE 7.0.5730.11 on the same system. TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, install Chrome 2.0.169.1 or Chromium 2.0.172.0 on a Windows XP SP3 system where Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.4 is installed. Go to the website: http://hcz.org/what-is-hcz/practitioners-institute and left-click the link on the right hand side called: "Click here to download a Practitioners Institute brochure ." Adobe Acrobat Professional will start up with a blank window and produce a dialog with the message as follows: "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDF in your web browser. Reader will now exit. Please exit your browser and try again." You can't work with your other open Adobe Acrobat Professional documents while this dialog is opened. The dialog gives you two choices: "OK" or "Cancel". If you click "Cancel", the dialog will immediately reappear with the same two choices. When you click "OK", Adobe Acrobat Professional will close. Along with it, it will close any other Adobe Acrobat Professional documents you had opened. Terrible side effect. Note 1: I use Adobe Acrobat Professional (not Adobe Acrobat Reader). Note 2: I was able to open PDF's in Chrome using Adobe Acrobat Professional (not Adobe Acrobat Reader) beautifully for months until Adobe pushed through an update, updating to 8.1.4. This broke Chrome, but did not break Firefox nor IE. Note 3: I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled to no avail. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
