Adobe Acrobat has a plugin, thats why it works. This is still not a feature that Chrome should be born with. The user himself should install said plugin. Microsoft Office installs serveral ActiveX components that Internet Explorer and many other applications use to show the related documents. I don't know how or why it works in Firefox, but I do believe that Chrome should not be born with such a feature.
