We use Skia to render text in the web contents. The likelihood of changing to Pango is slim. I left this open and CCed agl (fonts master) in case I am misunderstanding something here. From the screenshot you posted I would say chrome is doing better anti-aliasing than firefox because there's no odd discoloration.
