I don't know if things have panned out quite the way I hoped! Now, even
when deleting
(or .not-renaming) the cache dir, Chrome is still exceedingly slow.
I've been oogling those history files for quite some time, and today I
didn't handle
the slowness anymore and moved them away (and also renamed away the Cache
dir again).
The result is astonishing - Chrome again seems "brand new supersnappy".
(Note that I
took away the History, all History Index, Archived History, and Thumbnails
and all
the corresponding -journal files)
I don't know what the following implicates, but anyway: When navigating a
fresh
explorer to the Default-dir, every dir-move (going into a new dir) is
really snappy,
until I meet the actual Default dir (where these files reside). Going into
this dir
for some reason takes a long time to "resolve", as if there was a million
files in it
(explorer takes a long time to stat and sort files if there are many
thousands, I've
come to understand).
Following is the dir-listing before I moved away the history files: There's
1,2 GB of
files there! There HAS to be some serious absurdness about having 1.2
bleedin' gigs
of space used for, in effect only, history and thumbnail databases. The
Cache-dirs
very quickly goes up to about 300 MB - at that point I usually finish them
off. (The
four Cache.notX now residing there are 588, 189, 293 and the last which I
moved today
is 290 MBs).

You seriously have a creeping slowness performance problem, which you guys
MUST fix
for Chrome to take over the world! Chrome is the best (as in fastest)
browser in the
world - for the first two weeks you use it. Then it goes downhill.
