I believe i'm having a similar problem with version 3: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19474 Basically, ntlm failed for me in version 2, but now (badly) works in version 3. Where you say "keeps asking for credentials ad infinitum" - if I persist, and enter my user/pass ~8 times, it starts working!
