Comment #6 on issue 23282 by [email protected]: Can't import Fx
bookmark keywords with %s in non-query-params section
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=23282

"keyworded url functionality has nothing to do with setting your default
search
engine."

No, it doesn't. And managing search engines covers far more than just
setting a
default engine. That's why there's a management UI at all, not just
a "pick a
default" dropdown in the options.

"i suggest you break off from the firefox setup"

We did. That's precisely why we have a set of search engines with optional
keywords,
which covers this case far better than conflating them with bookmarks ever
did.

"since the bookmarks section is probably where you will continue to store
these url
settings"

We have never stored search engines in the bookmarks storage system.

"might also have the effect of highlighting its existence to people who do
look
around at their options"

Non-goal, plus this fraction of users is extremely low. In fact, we would
probably
prefer that people not play around with or know about this stuff, as it
tends to be
pretty confusing.

We do intend to add a context menu "Add a keyword for this search" option
when right-
clicking search fields in web content.

"you still havent explained _why_ you dont allow creating them in bookmarks
--
especially when firefox does"

I explained as well as I was able. They aren't bookmarks. See the last
paragraph of
comment 4.
