Mark: who owns your ~/.kde and the files and directories in it, and what  
are the
permissions? Did you tell Chrome to make itself the default browser after  
running it,
and if so does it still think it is? (And what version of KDE are you  
using?)

(You're right that this is unrelated to the bug at hand, but I've seen  
something like this
permission problem with ~/.kde once before and I'm interested in how it  
comes about.)
