Comment #24 on issue 15984 by rklloyd: /usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=15984
I'm a bit surprised by Google's stance on this - RHEL 5.4 (and CentOS 5.4) is *not* an "older distro" - it was released only months ago and has new features compared to 5.0-5.3 (despite thestig erroneously claiming that it's "5.0+fixes"). It is *not* in the same boat as "Win 2K, PPC Macs, and OS X < 10.5" because unlike those, it is the very latest release of the world's most popular commercial Linux, not that Google's developers seem to have realised this. I'll leave you with a sobering thought - Mozilla have successfully released binaries for Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey that have not only worked on the latest RHEL/CentOS/Fedora releases, but often on several older releases too. If they can do this, why can't Google? I'm still incredulous that Google can dismiss the world's most popular commercial Linux distro so easily. BTW, why not provide a static build of the Google Chrome binaries along with the dynamic ones? That way, the "dependency hell" should be much reduced and there's a good chance of "older distro" (!!) compatibility. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
