I've retested Chrome 4.0.288.1 and am still able to reproduce the issue.
Some more observations:
* It doesn't matter where chrome.exe is called from (local disk, mapped
network path
or UNC path).
* The issue doesn't happen when the user profile is on a different share.
The main difference between the two shares seems to be that on the share
where the
issue happens, I don't have access to \\host\ and \\host\users$\ , so this
could be
due to not having read (or list directory) access for a root directory.
Note that it
works when mapping \\host\users$\myname\ to a drive letter which indeed
allows access
to that drive's root directory.
