Hi all I talked to evmar on irc, regarding logging of the IRC channels (#chromium & #chromium-dev). He mentioned that he'd like for it to be discussed in public, before any decisions are made.
The logging is done by http://echelog.matzon.dk/ and is indexed by google ;) The primary purpose of logging the channels, is of course to make the channel communication available to people that are not online at the time. However my experience has also been that people have benefited from it by being able to point to a conversation discussing a problem, and potentially a solution. In continuation of this, I have personally more than once been sent to an irc chat (be it echelog or any other IRC logging service) describing an issue and often its solution. That said, freenode does ask that a channel should specify in its topic that it is being logged, since there are people that object to this. fwiw, messages can be prefixed with a dash (-) to avoid a message being logged. /matzon --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Chromium-dev" group.
