Hi all,
Thanks for all the feedback!
We debated putting the bookmarklets to the left of the omnibox or
consolidating them with the page menu. In the end, we decided to put them in
the omnibox as (a) they apply to the current page and (b) we don't want to
constantly shift the UI around for transient icons (such as the feed icon).
I think this is a reasonable place to put them for now, but I'm open to
revisiting this.
As for information vs. action, I'm not sure there's a clear distinction. The
RSS icon is information ("this page has a feed") but also action
("subscribe!"). Similarly, the lock icon is information ("this page is
served over SSL") but also action ("see the certificates for this site").
The security concern Erik brings up is something we discussed, but because
the user has to manually install the bookmarklet, we don't think it's very
exploitable. I'm happy to discuss this further though.
