You ask too many questions in an email; I'll answer a few. Q: Why no #chromium-dev? A: It's not needed anymore. chromium-dev has archives. You can search it if you want to know the reason.
Q: Why isn't chromium-dev more discoverable? A #1: Crowd controlling. A #2: People that have the potential to contribute useful patches do find the group. I'm glad you found it. Q: Google Groups UI sucks? A: Uh? Don't use it then. Subscribe by email instead of using the google groups UI. You don't need to use the UI at all. You can use [list:chromium-dev] as a gmail filter to auto-archive it. Q: Google Chrome Support redirects to webmaster support? A: That's what 99.9% of the people want. If you care about Chromium development, that's another story and you are at the right place. Have nice holidays.
