After ignoring most of the provided build instructions and thus having
great success with a failed build, I switched to following the build
docs rigidly and wound up with this:

========== Rebuild All: 152 succeeded, 0 failed, 1 skipped ==========

Chromium built with VS2008 is alive and kicking on my system.

Very impressive for such a complex build process.

I was also impressed with the quick responses I got to my rather dumb
flailing build attempt.

Nice! And thanks for one of the best examples of structuring and
building a complex software solution!!

My only small query to the process is curiousity about the fact that
the tar archive has to be synced in order to build correctly. It
shouldn't be too much trouble to hoist online a fully working build
setup as a tar archive and gather a history of such archives??

(Built on Vista with latest SDK and a non SP1 version of VS2008, also
had previously installed WTL8)
