With a dozen of minim modifications, I have patched chrome 2.0.172.28 to run on Windows 2000. From the source codes, I learn that chrome probably started as a Windows 2000 based project, then changed to Windows 2000 partially supported, and finally gave up. I wonder what's the real reason of giving up Windows 2000 support.
(1) There are too few Windows 2000 users? But chrome is making efforts to support Linux, which has even fewer users (1.12%) than Windows 2000 (1.13%). (2) There lack some APIs on Windows 2000? But those are not essential, they can be implemented alternatively or just be ignored as in Linux/ MacOSX version. (3) There's no way to buy a Windows 2000? But there's already a buildbot on Windows 2000 for building and testing chrome in early days. (4) There will no extended support for Windows 2000 after July 13, 2010? But Microsoft will provide self-help online support for Windows 2000. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Chromium Developers mailing list: [email protected] View archives, change email options, or unsubscribe: http://groups.google.com/group/chromium-dev -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
