Hm. Interesting. I think you have a point. I just tried dragging a URL to a non-google application's textarea and it did what you might expect: it added the URL to the text. However, when you do this with Google Mail, Chrome navigates to the URL! Since GMail and Google Groups share a lot of widgets, I'm guessing that Google Groups has the same behaviour.
This is not desired behaviour. I have one question: After losing your first posting, why did you try a similar thing and expect it to work? It seems to me you caused your own frustration on that one!
