Hey Adam,
You can pack an extension on linux/mac os. There was a thread about it
a while back, though groups search refuses to find it:

The script has one limitation in that it flattens subdirectory
contents in the extension (if you have any). I have a patch to fix
that, but I haven't sent it to the author yet.
