I can't think of any hacks to detect this - I guess the best you could do
today is provide a "reset to defaults" button on your options page. Maybe
someone else has a clever idea though.

We've talked about giving some APIs to give information about an extension's
install state (install time, version, events you can register for when an
autoupdate happened, etc.) but haven't done any formal specs yet.
