I have stayed at the Churchill regularly, at least annually for many years, through a couple changes of international hotel groups and it has remained a solid choice hotel on DuPont Circle. There is no significant attribute as to Winston Churchill, other than name, so don't expect perpetual homage, or even that the staff has knowledge of Churchill.
The hotel is stately having been refurbished over the last several years, lots of rooms with sitting areas an iconic small grocery around the corner for urban food supply. A couple blocks from the Metro, a mile + down slope walk to the Mall, coming out near the Vietnam Memorial. Across the street form a major convention hotel frequented by presidents, I've seen four there. I must also advise that the room rates paid have run the gambit, from low to high as their real offerings are during or between conventions, so if your time is flexible, you might call and discuss when is your best value available and let them sell you a low occupancy stay, often under $100. There are numerous and wide ranging restaurants within an easy walk and several bakeries to explore. I'm planning a trip to DC and noticed that there is a hotel called "The Churchill," which has a Chartwell Grill and Chartwell Lounge. Does anyone know anything about or have any experience with this place? Or am I just being lured in by the name?
