Don... Yes.. the colour photo contains the picture I am referring to, definitely.
I'm not sure if the one over the lectern is the same one.. but it is obviously a large painting. It is also very interesting if it was located there before being moved above the fireplace. Date-wise I can provide some information because the black and white picture also shows the original lectern made out of deal by the Estate staff. It was only about 3 feet in height as it used a wooden chest as a base that today acts as a base for a tropical fish tank (an original). This deal unit was replaced with a floor-standing mahogany unit that the children had made for WSC's 75th birthday. That tells us the black and white picture must be pre-1949, which at least means the picture of Blenheim may have been there before that date if we can determine if that is the picture above the lectern. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Riddle White Cottage 4 Sunningvale Avenue Biggin Hill, Westerham Kent TN16 3BT Tel: 01959 570359 Mobile: 07966 472340 e-Mail: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > On 22 Oct 2014, at 19:59, DONALD JAKEWAY <[email protected]> wrote: > > Is this the painting? > > <0a371e239fcfca9b85bcc97dbad8d158.jpg> > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Oct 22, 2014, at 1:54 PM, DONALD JAKEWAY <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> David: >> >> Here is a copy of the mirror over the fireplace. >> >> Is the picture you are looking at in front of Sir Winston in this photograph? >> >> <_69411068_017375027-1.jpg> >> >> Thanks. >> >> Don >> Sent from my iPhone >> >>> On Oct 22, 2014, at 12:17 PM, David Riddle <[email protected]> wrote: >>> >>> A couple of months ago I introduced myself to this Group as a current >>> Volunteer working at Chartwell, and a member of a group there researching >>> stories about the House, Estate, Objects therein, etc.. >>> >>> One item that we have drawn an almost complete blank on is the large >>> painting of Blenheim Palace that hangs above the fireplace in WSC's Study. >>> >>> We have photographs of the Study that indicate this painting was not always >>> present in this location, but that there was a vey large mirror there >>> instead. >>> >>> One recent suggestion is that the painting was loaned to Sir Winston by >>> Jack Churchill, his brother, just before WWII, but that Jack died in 1947 >>> and the painting was never returned to his family. >>> >>> There is also no recored information about the artist in the present Room >>> Guide for Volunteers other than that it is said to be probably 'English >>> School'. >>> >>> Does anyone in this Group happen to have any information to add to this >>> story? >>> >>> Many thanks in advance. >>> >>> David Riddle >>> Biggin Hill, Westerham, UK >>> >>> >>> -- >>> You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups >>> "ChurchillChat" group. >>> To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an >>> email to [email protected]. >>> To post to this group, send email to [email protected]. >>> Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/churchillchat. >>> For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. >> -- >> You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups >> "ChurchillChat" group. >> To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an >> email to [email protected]. >> To post to this group, send email to [email protected]. >> Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/churchillchat. >> For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "ChurchillChat" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to [email protected]. > To post to this group, send email to [email protected]. > Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/churchillchat. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "ChurchillChat" group.
