Don/David Re the Blenheim painting. I too was intrigued about this painting. Clearly his study has been arranged in the position it is today, for the public to see it in all its glory. Earlier photos show it whywen he was working hard on his speech making ,and writings. I have found reference to the painting in Robin Fedden’s book called Churchill at Chartwell which was published in 1969 and was the blue print for the original guide to the house and gardens s. In the chapter “inside the House” it states “ The wall above the fireplace is dominated by an oil painting pf Blenheim Palace ……. The 18th century view of Blenheim is by an unknown artist ……. I will see if I can track any more information about this painting.

One item that we have drawn an almost complete blank on is the large painting of Blenheim Palace that hangs above the fireplace in WSC's Study. We have photographs of the Study that indicate this painting was not always present in this location, but that there was a vey large mirror there instead. One recent suggestion is that the painting was loaned to Sir Winston by Jack Churchill, his brother, just before WWII, but that Jack died in 1947 and the painting was never returned to his family. There is also no recored information about the artist in the present Room Guide for Volunteers other than that it is said to be probably 'English School'.
