Maisky was indeed a fascinating, complex character, with a no less
complicated later life, as magnificently explained in the notes and
introductory texts of Professor Gorodetsky's superb edition of the Diaries.

interview with Professor Gabriel Gorodetsky discussing his book The Maisky
Diaries: Red Ambassasdor to the Court of St. James’s 1932-1943.

While contributing to the project transcribing WSC’s Appointments Diary for
the National Churchill Library and Center at The George Washington
University I was intrigued by the number of appointments with Maisky when he
does not figure prominently in the published literature. This book promises
a new insight into relations with the USSR in this period.
