Russia backs up SCO's access to energy networks

      RBC, 15.09.2006, Moscow 12:39:18.Russia supports establishing acceptable conditions for providing access to the energy networks to the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Russian PM Mikhail Fradkov said at the meeting of the SCO Prime Ministers.

      Fradkov suggested discussing the issue of establishing backbone transmission lines to transfer excess energy from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Central and Southern Asia. Also, it is important to build and modernize gas transportation corridors in the SCO, Fradkov said. Russian pipeline producers are ready to participate, he added.

      The Russian PM stressed that Russia was "taking active steps in developing the fuel and energy complex in Central Asia". Russia is investing a lot in the construction of power plants in the region.
