My testing was from Windows XP SP3, accessing a snv_103 server that's been joined to a domain, and I've just repeated the test from an XP SP2 client to a 2008.11 b98 server we also have on the domain, and that seems to work fine too.
I'm not seeing any sign of the problems you're having there I'm afraid. Are you able to check the permissions on the .zfs folder from Total Commander? I can see the permissions here in explorer, and while they're a little odd in that they include deny entries, they do appear consistent with 0555 permissions.
