This is the right place.

Yes it's the MSRPC interface to the Computer Management MMC.
There are some slides here:

http://blogs.sun.com/amw/resource/mmc.pdf

While looking at what can be done with OpenSolaris (snv_114) server CIFS shares via MS Windows' Computer Manager, I stumbled upon SMF services listed in the "Services" MMC plugin.

It's a neat idea, although seems unfinished. While working services are listed as "started", all services are listed as "Automatic" startup and I can't manage them

Yes, it's unfinished. The current implementation simply lists
the services.

anyway (click to stop/restart). Service descriptions are trunkated by one
character.
And the list includes some buggy lines like empty names or with invalid
characters,
and this changes with every refresh.

I don't see that here - although I'm running code that will be
available in snv_119, which includes the SVCCTL updates in 6854769.

Are you using a non-English language/locale on the client
and/or server? Can you provide a screenshot?

Anyway, as a proof of concept this looks quite cool, it would be interesting to see this evolve ;)

That's the plan.
