Remco, I've set ip:dohwcksum = 0 and will see what's going to happen. I think I still have a spare 3com NIC, which I might give a try by tomorrow (well today, but after sleeping;-).
A driver which causes complete loss of network connection would explain why there is an impact on the SSH connection on a second machine. What I "guess" from the logs and dmesg timestamps is, that the whole OpenSolaris box is rebooting in the situation.
