Muslims gather in Bekasi to listen call against 'Christianization' Hasyim Widhiarto, The Jakarta Post, Bekasi, West Java | Sun, 06/27/2010 11:44 AM | Headlines Obsolete call: (JP/Hasyim Widhiarto) A group of Bekasi-based Islamic organizations run Sunday a public gathering with their supporters to officially publish the result of their recent joint Islamic congress aimed at fighting "the ongoing attempts to convert people to Christianity." Held in the Al Azhar mosque, one of the biggest mosques in the city, the gathering was started at 10 a.m., followed by more than 500 people wearing Muslim attires. Among local Ulemas attending the event were Sulaiman Zachawerus from the Bekasi regency's Interfaith Dialogue Forum, Ahmad Salimin Dani from Bekasi Islamic Missionary Council, Abdul Rauf from Muhammadiyah's Bekasi chapter and Murhali Barda from the Islam Defender Front (FPI) Bekasi chapter who is also the coordinator of the Bekasi Movement Against Apostasies. The event organizers has scheduled the Ulemas to give public oration during the event. Leaders of the Islamic groups held last Sunday a joint congress with the main agenda to establish an organized movement to fight against the ongoing 'Christianization' attempt in the city.
