Tuna Exports in Cilacap Declines
Monday, 28 June, 2010 | 14:32 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Cilacap:As a result of bad weather coming in from the
Indonesian Ocean, tuna exports from Cilacap to Japan has declined by almost 50
percent. "Normally, catches can reach 300 tons every month, but now it is 200
tons," said the Cilacap Ship Businessmen Association chief, San Po, yesterday.

Fishermen normally export 40 tons of tuna to Japan every month, but now they
can only send 22 tons.

The decline can be seen at the Cilacap Ocean Fishery Port, where the fishermen
auction their catches.

According to San Po, an armada of 100 long line ships are used to catch tuna
fish in Cilacap. However, only 50 are currently sailing. Despite the daring
attempt, the fishermen failed to get a maximum result.

Many other big ships weighing over 30 gross tons are also not sailing at the
moment. Of all 200 ships, only 90 are still out fishing.
