150 railway track clamps stolen in Gresik

At least 150 clamps of railway tracks along the Cerme-Duduk Sampeyan section in 
Gresik regency, East Java, were stolen in the period between Aug. 2 and Aug. 
15, endangering safety of passengers of the trains.

Bretty Eko Sucahyo, an officer of state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia 
in charge of inspected the section, said that the theft of the clamps was 
feared to derail passing trains if it was not detected as early as possible.

On the wee hours of Tuesday authorities managed to capture Jaiman, 40, a 
resident of Montong district, Tuban regency, in the railway section for 
stealing the clamps by sawing them.

Head of Gresik police Adj. Sr. Comr. Jacub Prajogo said that the arrest was 
made possible under a cooperation between the police and the railway company.

He urged the public to give any information on any suspicious thing along the 
railway tracks. "This is important for the sake of the safety of the 
passengers, especially ahead of the rising number of passengers for the Idul 
Fitri celebration," Jacub said as quoted by kompas.com.

Jaiman admitted that he was forced to steal the clamps in order to enable him 
to support his family - a wife and one child.
