------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2006-01-22 05:16 -------
okay first to reply to your very timely comments Pierre.

I thought I had something not quite right and actually also tried just as you
suggest (with cat > /dev/null in the pipe box). I have just tried again to make
double sure. Cinelerra still crashed with the dv file. With a blank file the
rendering appeared to work but produced no file.

As for the dv container. Yes it is the dreaded raw DV avi container. Dv type 2
as output by dvgrab. I thought the problem with raw dv handling related to
rendering and not reading from. I have never had any problem with cinelerra
reading from the unaltered dv footage as output by dvgrab from my camera. That
is I have never had a problem as long as I render to another sort of container
(obviously not the mpeg-2 container discussed.)

Given your comment I tried taking this raw footage into cinelerra; rendering to
the quicktime container as dv (an almost instant render). Then reopening the
footage and trying to render to mpeg2 (and also the yuv4mpege pipe) as before.

None of the error messages changed.

For aspect ratio and the rest: as discussed below:
