yes, the mask's value is jumping at keyframes, unfortunately.
But you can always place a identical unmasked copy of your clip on a
track above and fade over to this if you don't need the mask anymore.
Tracks are for free.

Another trick wich is usefull for "add alpha" masks: you can move the mask
points out of the active area of the track by zooming temporarily with the
projector. But be sure not to add projector keyframes, only add the mask
keyframes.... ;-)
