Hi all,

I'm trying to create RealVideo stream files using RealProducer (RP) for
Linux, but so far (after several hours of trying), I haven't succeeded.

The base material is a DV file, imported using Kino. As the Linux
version of RP only accepts the uncompressed Quicktime format, I tried
rendering the DV to Quicktime for Linux using Cinelerra; for the audio
'compression', I figured that Two's complement should be right, and for
video compression I chose (uncompressed?) DV. Alas, RP seemed to
recognize the resulting .mov, but apparently couldn't handle it:

  Command line: realproducer -i test.mov -o test.rm -t 0,1 -v 0 -f 1 -b
"Test"
  Encoding...
ERROR: encoding failed, The source (file or live capture) is invalid.

Then I tried some other video compression settings, such as uncompressed
RGB, but those weren't recognized at all:

  Command line: realproducer -i test.mov -o test.rm -t 0,1 -v 0 -f 1 -b
"Test"
  Encoding...
ERROR: encoding failed, The source that you have selected is not a
recognized file type.
The required audio or video plugin could not be located.

I also tried feeding the video through the composite video in of a TV
card, trying to capture the video stream with RP using v4l, but that
failed as well, and produced the same error message about an
unrecognized source or file type, and required plugins not being
located. But perhaps there's something wrong with my /dev/video0.

So basically, I'm stuck, somehow missing the link between my DV (or
composite video) material, and what RP expects.
Is there anyone here who actually succeeded in rendering Quicktime files
which are acceptable to RP? The idea is to offer live and pre-recorded
broadcast streams in a non-MPEG and non-Windows format, so we decided on
the Real format - but RealProducer for Linux seems pretty useless ...

Any feedback, tips or other sources of information on this are highly
appreciated!

Regards,

Richard Rasker
