Been not there at your side it's quite difficult for me figure out what's going on, i'm asking you to tell me what the system is telling you.

1) open dvgrab from a terminal (with root privilege)

2)type

# dvgrab

3)copy paste here what output

4) open another terminal

5) type

# dmesg

6) copy paste here output (last 10 lines)

It should be usefull to know which linux distro are you on.

mmmmm, did dvgrab "say something" in the console?

or dmesg ?

if you wanna join #cinelerra on irc.freenode.net, although i'm
actually using a very unstable net from my neighbourgh and i can't
promise i can stay as long as i would....

I've never been able to get IRC working. It not been a high priority
for me and I don't understand it. I'm figuring it may be something in
my camera settings that could be causing the problem. I'll experiment
with that for a while, but I have to go and shoot again today. If you
have any ideas, that'd be great. The editing is starting to pile up.
So I'll need to get something working soon or I'll have to go to the
video coop and rent their equipment and see if that works.
