I am in the UK (so operating in PAL) and recorded a small segment of video on my DVD record.
I want to take this video and put a title on the front and add some background music. I extracted the .vob file from the DVD and loaded it as a resource into cinelerra and have then successfully managed to edit it to meet what I want. I now try to render it. And this is where I struggle. What format should I use to get the same sort of balance of quality and file size that the dvd sample had? I tried "quicktime for linux" with video and audio set at mpeg-4, but the resultant rendered video has quite bad artifacts round some of the detail. I also tried the video as a motion JPEG, and whilst the quality was fine the filesize became far too large.
