Thanks Hermann - I will try the patched makefile on svn 1008 with my
almost-stock Debian sid (6 May 07) and a manual compile. I suspect it
will go okay but I'll let you know.
The patch works for me : I can now build and run successfully with no
configure or make flags. Hmm... it seems my earlier build problems
would have been solved a lot quicker if I hadn't managed to stuff things
up by changing back and forth between automake versions.
After I compiled cinelerra successsfully with no flags I took your
suggestion and rebuilt with the --enable-sse3 configure flag. I found
no need for --with-pic .
I wonder if my cinelerra experience (ie speed) would improve at all by
including your CFLAGS?: CFLAGS=-ffast-math -msse3 -march=athlon64
-funroll-loops -minline-all-stringops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fPIC
