Hi Terje,

if you want (only) DV resolution in the final result, of course it is
much more convienient to reduce the resultion early. Because DV material
demands much lesser processing power. And because of the anamorphotic
storage of HDV, handling such in a Cinelerra project gives rise to some
odds and ends.

BUT, if you want maximum quality in your final product, it is better to
stay at the full resulution as long as possible. The rationale is to
have additional "headroom" for any effects, zooming, deinterlacing etc.
you want to apply to your material. This may impose much more processing
power, consideration and work though.

The third idea in your post mentions the possibility to use the camera
converted material as "Proxy" for the full res material. But sadly,
cinelerra has no native support for such proxy editing. If someone is
struck to use proxies (which is often the case because of the high
demands of HDV editng), the only solution is to use some hacks and
external scripting at the moment.

Cheers,
Hermann
